Chico Kidney Biathlon - Saturday, March 23, 2013
Chico Nephrology and Fresenius Medical Care are proud to sponsor the first annual Chico Kidney Biathlon! This ground-breaking event will combine a 5 Kilometer run with a 10 Kilometer bike ride through Upper and Lower Bidwell Park on Saturday, March 23, 2013 to benefit the Enloe Foundation’s Kidney Health Fund.
By hosting this inspiring event, we also hope to help raise awareness and educate the public about the kidney and kidney disease. Nearly 1 out of every 1000 adults requires dialysis and another 26 million American adults have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Kidney disorders are projected to increase in the coming years due to the aging population. Although assistance programs are available, they are limited and many patients don’t qualify.
We are delighted to have partnered with the Enloe Foundation, who shares our commitment to community health and has been a making a difference in the Chico area since 1986. Together we have established the Kidney Health Fund, which will provide support for individuals with kidney related complications.
We chose a Celtic knot to represent this event for several reasons. National Kidney Awareness Month is in March and is symbolized by a green ribbon. For many, March is also associated with green and suggests a Celtic theme. Inside each kidney are thousands of small nephrons (Greek for kidney) which make up the basic structural and functional part of the kidney. Pictures of the nephrons look like an endless knot.
Why not join us for a new spring break tradition, raise awareness and help support your community!
All net proceeds given to the Chico Kidney Biathlon remain in the Chico area to benefit the communities kidney needs. Your donation, through volunteering, participation or financial help support our cause. Thank You!
